Should You Get a Pre-Inspection?

Here’s why every home seller should at least consider getting a pre-inspection done.

Home sellers ask me all the time, “Is it worth it to get a pre-inspection done before selling my home?” The answer is always a resounding yes, and here’s why:

1. It alleviates stress. There’s already plenty of stress in the home-selling process as it is. Your buyer will order their home inspection as part of their due diligence period, and issues will be found; why wait until you’re under contract to find out about a potential structural problem or other unpleasant surprises that could swing the sale?

2. It allows you to handle repairs on your terms. Instead of giving the buyer more leverage during the negotiation period, you can fix issues ahead of time at your pace and with your preferred contractors.

3. It helps with marketing your home. You can advertise that your home has already been inspected by a professional and that you’ve fixed the specific issues they identified. It will put many buyers at ease knowing that the home they’re considering paying top dollar for is actually going to be a safe, sound investment.
